SKS MONTE CARLE
GUNSTOCK
INSTALLATION

Part#SKS3000
Fits Standard Fixed Mag
# SKS3100
F its 5rd Detachable Mag

sks monte

Classic Hunting Stock.

MAKE SURE YOUR RIFLE IS UNLOADED
BEFORE STARTING!

Fits all SKS Models, including the 10-round and 30-round models, and those with 16" and 20" barrels.

.sks step 1
The SKS Blade Bayonet must be removed. The bayonet can cause serious hand injury if left in place during firing.

Some models of SKS rifles may require a bit of hand fitting in the magazine area or in the receiver cover release lever. Use a rotary tool or file.

REMOVE WOODEN STOCK

STEP #1 To remove the wooden stock from the SKS rifle, pull the bolt back to the locked open position, and inspect the magazine and chamber to be sure they are empty. To remove the trigger assembly, first put the safety in the "on" position. Insert a pin punch or pointed tool (a Phillips head screwdriver will work) into the spring latch catch at the rear of the trigger guard and press it inward firmly until the spring latch releases.

STEP #2 The trigger assembly will now spring out and can be removed by pulling outward and rearward. Next remove the box magazine by pulling outward on the rear of the magazine.

sks step3

STEP #3 The barreled action can now be removed from the stock by pulling or prying outward on the rear of the receiver.

sks step4

STOCK INSTALLATION

STEP #4 To assemble the new stock to the barreled action, reverse disassembly process. Use of the trigger group kick-out spring from the original wood stocks is NOT necessary nor recommended.

sks step5

STEP #5 If you have difficulty reinstalling the magazine, make certain that the stock is as far forward on the action as it will go. NOTE: bolt must be locked back for magazine to be installed. Make certain that the magazine front locator is in its mating slot on the bottom of the rear sight base.

sks step 6

STEP #6 Trigger Group Installation: place the barreled action/stock assembly inverted on a padded surface. Be sure the trigger group hammer is cocked and that the safety is in the "on" position. Insert the front of the trigger group into the stock, making certain that the trigger group cross pin goes into the locator lugs on the receiver bottom. Push the rear of the trigger group down until it stops.

sks step7

STEP #7 (last stock installation step) Push firmly down on the pistol grip or the buttstock. Now tap (use a padded or plastic hammer) the trigger bow down and forward. On initial installation some effort will be needed. Check that the trigger group is fully locked in place by moving the safety to the "off" position. If any unusual resistance is encountered, the trigger group is not fully latched. Tapping the trigger group downward while moving the safety lever to the "off" position usually completes the latching process. Stock installation is complete.

HANDGUARD

sks step8
Move the lever only to the first dimple!

HANDGUARD INSTALLATION

STEP #8 Remove the existing Gas Tube Assembly from your SKS. Use a screwdriver or the punch from your SKS cleaning kit to raise the lever on the right side of the rear sight base. Dimple on the lever should stop at the end of the curved track on the right side of the rear sight base.

STEP #9 With lever in this position you can now lift the gas tube assembly up and out of the gun. Pull upward at rear of gas tube assembly. (This may require some careful prying with a screwdriver.) Be CAREFUL not to bend or dent gas tube.

STEP #10 Remove the gas piston from assembly by tipping it upside down. It will simply slide out.

sks step 7

STEP #11 Inspection of Gas Tube Assembly will reveal a small rivet running crosswise through the rear handguard sheet metal cover. Rivet may be difficult to see. Rivet has two ends, the head and the shaft. Be sure to punch out from shaft end. Remove this rivet by using a 1/16" punch or the "punch" provided in your cleaning kit. Eye protection is a must.

Alternative to Handguard installation: Degrease and degloss handguard wood. Spray with low gloss black paint.

STEP #12 Once rivet is removed, the rear sheet metal cover will slide off, as will the wooden handguard. NOTE: If rivet is damaged, a similar sized finish nail can be cut to length to serve as a replacement. Must be cut to fit smoothly, as did original rivet.

STEP #13 Install new handguard by simply reversing the above steps.
